American Author Prof. Wendell McConnaha to speak in Orkney

The John Rae Society is delighted to welcome American author and historian Prof. Wendell McConnaha to Orkney this September. He will deliver a talk at 7pm, Monday 16 September at the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall.

Prof. McConnaha will talk about his new book, Losing Sight of the Shore. Described as a “compelling history”, the book examines the lives of five medical explorers, including Dr John Rae, and examines how their work and philosophies helped shape the British Imperial Century.

This event will be of special interest to anyone interested in exploration, discovery, and Scottish history. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy light refreshments, take part in a raffle, and purchase signed copies of Prof. McConnaha’s book.
