Ian Waddell Q.C. is a former trial lawyer, Canadian M.P, Tourism and Environment Minister for the Province of British Columbia, author and filmmaker. Ian will tell the story of the legal fight and political struggle for equality by Canada’s aboriginal people and their allies beginning with Royal Proclamation of 1763, through the early legal cases of the 1970s, to a famous Royal Commission on pipelines, culminating in the recognition of aboriginal rights in Canada’s new constitution of 1982. Waddell will discuss the present situation in Canada including the recent UN Declaration on the rights of indigenous people.
