Open Days at the Hall

Hall Front realisation 1750

Our popular open days are back but in a different format. The John Rae Society will hold two Open Days, on 18th and 19th September, from 10 am until 4pm each day. Visitors will be able to hear about our archaeological explorations of the area around the Hall of Clestrain where new discoveries last year and these are causing some rethinking of the layout and previous use of these areas. There will be guides to talk you through these discoveries.

There will be free refreshments and our Marquee will be selling our merchandise of cards and books including our own researched and published The Hall of Clestrain: a Brief History. There will be a plant stall and live music as well.

Access inside the Hall will not be possible because of COVID and also the drying out of the Hall prior to conservation has caused some of the timbers to shrink.

Members of the public are asked to observe social distancing during their visit, and whilst entry is free with no need to book, donations to the society will be most welcome.

Parking is available on the grass verges in front of the Hall to keep the farmyard clear but feel free to bring a picnic!

See our website for more details of the dig https://www.johnraesociety.com/category/research/
