The community engagement event at Orphir was a great success despite it being held on the same day as the funeral of the much missed Sybil Brown from Orphir, we at John Rae Society send our sympathies.
We had nearly a hundred visitors to our event and they were entertained by Ellen Grieve (accordion) and Ingrid Tait (fiddle) playing music for us which was very well received and created a nice atmosphere. The Maureen Findlay Dancers entertained us with their themed dances and and food was provided by the Orphir cake bakers.
We agonized about whether to go ahead with this event in the current health climate and it will be our last for some time no doubt.
Several of the visitors completed our paper survey with several others promising to complete the on-line survey when they get back home.
There was a great atmosphere with several new members and volunteers agreeing to help us in our huge project of restoring the Hall of Clestrain.
Thanks to everyone who attended and of course to our band of helpers.
